Three projects received the SA Institute of Architects’
(SAIA) Award for Excellence for 1004.
The recipients are:
•
WESTCLIFF
ESTATE
While it can be assumed that when a client employs an architect
the money is well spent, this project demonstrates that, no
matter what the budget, the designer brings added value.
• NEW
MEDICAL RESEARCH FACILITIES
The project serves an example of how designers apply their
minds across the range of technologies and resolves each appropriately
and inventively.
•
SOUTH
AFRICAN APARTHEID MUSEUM
This project
is closely linked to its theme and becomes the proscenium
to the theatre-in-the-round of its presentation. The visitor
becomes the participator in the drama of violent and violated
memory. The architecture is not however overtly literal in
its symbolism.
