CCN Portal Released for General Use

After several years of research, planning and preparation, CCN released the beta version of the CCN Construction Web Search service in November 2008. The live version of this much anticipated web search tool, optimized to search construction websites in South Africa thereby giving you relevant search results at the click of a mouse, has now been released as part of version 1 of the CCN Portal.

This is great news, not only for those of you who invested in SAIA Members Investment Limited, but for all SAIA members and the industry as a whole, as the CCN Portal allows buyers and specifiers free and direct access to thousands of construction industry suppliers.

So, you can now search the construction web using the CCN Construction Web Search service, and can also look forward to the release of future CCN web tools such as the CCN Construction Product Gallery, the CCN Construction Business Directory, and the CCN Construction iCatalogue – all of which will be made searchable for your ease of use.

Please go to www.ccnportal.co.za and click on the ‘register for free’ link to register as an information seeker on the CCN Portal, and start searching!

Finally, we know that construction industry suppliers send you overwhelming amounts of information by post, fax and email. We encourage all members to forward CCN all supplier information that is received to sianne@ccn.org.za or by fax to (031) 539 7094. CCN will ensure that it is included in the CCN database for your easy reference.

APIGIS (Architectural Professional Indemnity Group Insurance Scheme)

APIGIS (Architectural Professional Indemnity Group Insurance Scheme) is a Professional Indemnity solution tailor-made for the architectural industry by architectural professionals, and as such the best possible package has been put together.

Some years back PI insurance was proving costly and/or difficult to come by for many of the practitioners. At the instigation of Ronald Remmers of the PIA, Marsh investigated a tailor made insurance solution for members of the SAIA and the end result was the establishment of the APIGIS Trust. This has essentially given architects access to competitive rates and collective interaction with Insurers on behalf of the practices.

The APIGIS Trust was registered in 1999 and there are currently 8 Trustees who represent professionals registered within regional architectural institutes. According to stipulations in the Trust document, Trustees meet on an annual basis, where important issues are discussed and decisions taken. The Trustees are:

Ronald Remmers Managing Trustee (Pretoria Institute for Architecture)
Phillip Crafford Pretoria Institute for Architecture
Kwazi Agyare-Dwomoh Gauteng Institute for Architecture
Patricia Emmett Kwa-Zulu Natal Institute for Architecture
Richard Honikman Cape Institute for Architecture
Charles Louw Eastern Cape Institute of Architects
Wendy Salter Border-Kei Institute of Architects
Su Linning South African Institute of Architects

The Scheme is currently administered for the Trust by PI Financial Risk Services (Pty) Ltd and underwritten by Manwood Underwriting Group. Over the years the scheme has received good support and is holding its own in the marketplace, mostly small to medium practices presently being insured. The insurance market is cyclical and the APIGIS Trustees and Scheme Managers are ever mindful of this, and are making sure that policy holders are receiving the best terms and service.

If you are not already a participant in the scheme we urge you to approach PI Financial Risk Services (Pty) Ltd for a quotation.
