engaged in ongoing consultation with several organisations
in the public and private sectors. CONSTRUCTION
TRANSFORMATION CHARTER
The
Construction Sector finalised a Broad Based Black Economic
Empowerment Charter after several years of hard negotiations.

CONSTRUCTION
INDUSTRY DEVELOPEMENT BOARD
The
Construction Industry Development Board has developed
a Compendium of Legislation which is available on their
website. It also publishes an Information Bulletin,
a quarterly News Bulletin and Practice Notes. New amendments
to the Construction Industry Development Regulations
were published on 18 August 2006. They impact: the Standard
for Uniformity on Construction Procurement; Documents
within the construction procurement Best Practice Library
and the new Standard Procurement Documents.

BUILT
ENVIRONMENT PROFESSIONS GROUPING
The
constituents of the BEP Grouping comprise voluntary
associations of the built environment. A Memorandum
of Understanding was signed by the group, comprising
ASAQS, SAACE, SABTACO and SAIA, in January 2006. The
Association of Construction Project Managers has since
joined the group. Click

SOUTH
AFRICAN BUREAU OF STANDARDS
The
Institute is engaged in the process of developing and
implementing the third revision of SANS 10400, Code
of Practice for the Application of the National Building
Regulations. This process has been running over a period
of several years and is likely to reach a conclusion
during 2007 with publication and taking into practice
of the revised Code.
CONSTRUCTION SOUTH AFRICA
The Institute is a constituent of the newly-formed organisation,
Construction South Africa, which held its inaugural
meeting on Thursday, 30 November 2006. All the participants
in the Charter process have indicated support for such
an umbrella body, which aims to be a voluntary association
of all the role-players in the Construction Industry.
